Laugh, It’s Not That Serious

A merry heart does good, like medicine, But a  broken spirit dries the bones. —Proverbs 17:22

In a world where there is so much heartache, sadness and tragedy, there is one thing that we must never as an individual, husband, wife, father, mother, man or woman forget to do–we must never forget to laugh.

Here is a truth that should be framed and hung on your living-room wall right next to the “The family that prays together, stays together” frame, “The Family That Laughs Together; Stays Together”.

There is healing and medicinal properties in laughter. As a matter of fact, science has proven that laughter releases chemicals into our bodies that are very beneficial to our well-being. We need to learn not to take ourselves so seriously. As fallible and imperfect people, we need to give ourselves the permission to laugh at ourselves. Laughter breaks tension, will dissipate stress, chases anger away, heals hurts and transforms the atmosphere of heaviness into celebration.

Nothing in life should be taken so serious that it robs the celebration within your family. Nothing should be allowed to silence the sounds of joy through laughter. Always remember, don’t just “pray together to stay together” as important as this is—remember also to “laugh together to stay strongly together”.

Whether you feel like it or not, want to or do not does NOT matter; joy is a decision and a choice not a feeling. Your life, your spouse and your family will thank you for bringing the gift of laughter into the home and into every “serious” situation that may arise. Laughter is one of those inseparable-glues that can bind a family together in and through any difficult, tough and hard-time that this world may and will throw at you. I dare you, quit taking yourself so serious and learn how to laugh at yourself—I guarantee you won’t ever regret it!
